The Centre for Maritime Cybersecurity is a research centre within the Estonian Maritime Academy of Tallinn University of Technology with a primary focus on advancing cybersecurity in the maritime industry. The Centre was founded though the MariCybERA project, that received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme to establish the Centre in response to the increasing cyber threat in the maritime sector.
Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia, is a hub of maritime activity and has a long history of innovation in the field of cybersecurity. This combined with its close proximity to the Baltic Sea, makes it an ideal location for the creation of a research and development centre dedicated to improve research performance in the field of maritime cybersecurity.
Our research aims to provide the maritime industry with the latest knowledge, and expertise to secure their networks, vessels, and supply chain infrastructure from cyber threats. We believe that cybersecurity is not just an IT or technical issue, but a socio-technical problem as it is driven by humans. Therefore, we work closely with industry to develop applicable solutions that align with overarching security objectives.
The Centre was established in collaboration of two units of the Tallinn University of Technology: The Centre of Digital Forensics and Cyber Security, and the Estonian Maritime Academy. The goal is to provide a platform for the development of cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions for the maritime industry, as well as to raise awareness about the importance of the cybersecurity of the maritime sector, and at the same time attract young people to the field.
